Gallery: National Educationion Conference and Awards Ceremony

The Food Safety Professionals Association are hosting a National Food Safety Conference in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham Dublin on November 2nd 2012 starting at 10.30 a.m.
This event is open to all people involved in the food industry in Ireland
Key note speakers include

  • Simon  Flanaghan of RSSL speaking on Food Allergan Control
  • James McIntosh CEO  Safefood

These speakers will be followed by a panel discussion and to be chaired by Adrian Cummins of the Restaurant Association of Ireland

Information on Guest speakers

James McIntosh is a registered toxicologist who works for Safefood. His work involves the promotion and protection of human health through scientific programmes aimed at fostering cooperation and linkages. James has a particular interest in food allergy and intolerance and has co-ordinated a comprehensive training programme for the Environmental Health services and third-level catering lecturers throughout the island of Ireland in food allergen control. He also co-ordinates research funding to address knowledge gaps in the chemical safety of the food chain and he is actively involved in three of the Safefood Knowledge Networks concerning Biotoxins, Chemical Residues and Food Allergy & Intolerance. James is an honours graduate in Biochemistry from University College Cork where he also completed his PhD thesis on the cellular effects of industrially important solvent mixtures. He obtained his MSc in Toxicology from the University of Surrey while working in the Pesticide Control Service of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in Dublin. James is an active member of the Irish Society of Toxicology and is on the Register of Toxicologists in Ireland.

Simon Flanagan is a senior consultant with Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) based at the University of Reading in the UK. He is a specialist in Food Allergen Management, Risk assessment & Contamination Control. Simons experience is across numerous industry sectors working for both blue-chip companies and SME's. He is currently involved in education specifically in the area of HACCP, quality system auditing & design, sampling & validation programs and crisis management.

Ray Ellard started his career as an EHO in 1975 and quickly progressed to the post of Chief Environmental Health Officer at the Dept of Health, where he worked as an advisor to the Minister on environmental issues and policy. He moved to the Food Safety Authority when it was established in 1998 and is currently Director of audit & compliance. He is a graduate of the University of Ulster with a Masters in European Food Regulatory Affairs. He also attended Trinity College, UCD and University of Aberdeen.

Adrian Cummins is the Chief Executive Officer of the Restaurants Association of Ireland, which is the representative group for the Irish Restaurant Industry. The association was founded in 1970 the organisation has over 500 members. It provides a wealth of benefits and services to restaurant owners; it also currently provides a comprehensive package of training programmes for the restaurant sector, covering a wide range of skills and disciplines. He is a graduate of NUI Galway.

Tom Doorley

During his college days at TCD Tom made his first impact on the Irish media scene as a newsreader on pirate radio station ARD. Since then he has written about food and wine for many newspapers, including The Irish Independent, The Sunday Tribune, The Field, The Sunday Independent and The Daily Telegraph. Tom is currently a Columnist with the Irish Daily Mail, resident critic on RTE's The Restaurant, marketing consultant & copywriter.
